What is Ultrasound?

Is an ultrasound-based diagnostic imaging technique used for visualizing subcutaneous body structures including tendons, muscles, joints, vessels and internal organs for possible pathology or lesions.

In physics, the term “ultrasound” applies to all sound waves with a frequency above the audible range of normal human hearing, about 20 kHz. The frequencies used in diagnostic ultrasound are typically between 2 and 18 MHz.

Pregnancy Ultrasound

With our state of the art ultrasound machine, we are registered with the Ministry of Health to provide pregnancy ultrasounds.
With a surcharge of $70, women can choose a time that suits them and their families to attend their appointment, we provide high quality images as well as a USB drive with all of the scan’s images on them.

Preparation for Ultrasound

Some ultrasound examinations require prior preparation by the patient. These are required so that the Sonographer who is doing the ultrasound can see properly to the areas that they have been asked to look at.

Abdomen / Gall Bladder / Liver / Aorta
Drink plenty of water but do not eat for 8 hours prior to examination

Renal/Bladder
Full bladder required, drink 4 glasses of water 1 hour before examination

Carotids/Limb/Vessels
No preparation required

Pelvis and Early pregnancy (before 14 weeks)
Full bladder required, drink 4 glasses of water 1 hour before examination

Pregnancy (after 14 weeks)
No preparation required.

You may bring a support person if you need assistance with mobility or moral support. Parents may sit with their children.

During

Please allow up to 20 minutes for your Ultrasound.
For a clear image you must remain still as directed. Your Sonographer may need to position or reposition you to aid with the imaging process and will make sure you are comfortable. Depending on the location of the exam, you may either sit or lie down.
Be assured that the exam is carried out by an experienced and caring technician who will talk you through the process, position you carefully (either sitting, standing or lying down) and make sure you are comfortable.

After

Images will be reported directly to your physician within hours (sometimes minutes) of being taken.
If the cost of your Ultrasound is to be covered by ACC, there will be a surcharge which is payable on the day of your exam.
